This peaceful circular walk takes around 2 hours without stops, though most guests enjoy taking longer. Along the way you’ll pass:

  • Penterry Church, with origins dating back to 995 AD

  • Tintern Abbey, one of the most iconic landmarks in the Wye Valley

  • The site of a medieval village lost during the Black Death

It’s a route rich in history, woodland, and sweeping valley views.

Route Description

From Reddings Retreat, join the Wye Valley Walk footpath and follow it downhill through the woodland towards Tintern Abbey. You’ll join the official route at Point 4 on the map.

Continue along the trail through Tintern, passing Penterry Farm, and follow the waymarked path up towards Penterry Church.

From the church, head across to Gaer Hill for wide views over the valley. The route then leads you back towards Reddings Retreat via Porthcasseg Farm, through Blackcliff Woods, past Reddings Farm, and finally back to your starting point at Reddings Retreat.
