A wide selection of birds and wildlife live at Reddings Retreat. The diversity of habitats include ancient woodland, ponds, hedgerows, crops, wildflowers and fields, all attracting a wide selection of wildlife.
Along with the farm animals a wide variety of wildlife also call Reddings Retreat their home.
Birds - each day a huge variety of birds will be spotted from hedgerow, garden, game, farmland to birds of prey. The Dawn chorus is so beautiful and if walking at night the hooting of the owls can be heard along with nightjar calls at dusk in the summer.
Commonly sighted birds at Reddings Retreat include: Song thrush, Mistle thrush, Fieldfair, Redwings (aka Red-winged Blackbird), Eurasian Blackbird, Common Reed Warbler, Jenny Wren (Eurasian / Common Wren), Dunnock (aka Hedge sparrow), Nuthatch, Tits; (long tailed, great, coal, & blue), Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Treecreeper, Pied wagtall, Grey wagtail, Meadow pipit, Flycatcher, Swallow, House Martin, Green finch, Haw finch, Gold finch, Chaffinch, Siskin, House sparrow, Bullfinch, Starling, Mute Swan, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Common Gull, Kittiwake, Great Cormorant, Heron, Canadian geese, Pochard, Mallard, Common Shelduck, Mandarin duck, Ruddy duck, Egret, Northern Lapwing, Piper, Morhen, Water rail, Green-winged Teal (Aka English Teal or Eurasian Teal), Kingfisher, Red kite, Kestrel, Buzzard, Goshawk, Sparrow hawk, Peregrine falcon, Little owl, Tawny owl, Barn owl, Jay, Magpie, Jackdor, Carrying crow, Rook, Chiffchaff (makes that sound hence the name), Woodcock, Red legged Partridge, English Pheasant, Guinea fowl, Wood pigeon, Stock dove, European Turtle Dove, Rock dove, Green woodpecker, Great spotted woodpecker and Eurasian Skylark.
More uncommon and rare birds that can be spotted at Reddings Retreat include: Common Snipe, Common Raven, Eurasian Hobby, Northern Wheatear, Garden Warbler, Common Sandpiper & White throated Dipper.
The bird feeders hanging in the trees in front Reddings Retreat's private room have a steady flow of daily visitors all year round. Popular visitors durring the summer are 3 great spotted woodpeckers, swallows, finches and tits. If visiting between March and October you may even spot the Sand Martins in the sky.

The River Wye is under 10 minute walk along the Wye Valley Walk public footpath from Reddings Retreat, where mute swans, Geese, ducks can be seen most days. Along with the the occasionally sighting of glossy Ibis, Grey Herons, Cormorants and Goosander.
Mammals - Fallow, Roe, Red and Muntjac deer live in and around Reddings Retreat. Our most common deer visitors are a herd of 20 fallow deer that feed regularly and can be spotted in the fields. In the Springtime the mothers with their fawn can be seen grazing along the hedgerows behind and in front of the shepherds huts. Wild boar are often wondering around the farm yard throughout the year that live in the surrounding forests and bats can be seen at dusk almost every night.in the summer months. Otters and Sammy the seal can often be spotted in the River Wye.
A wide variety of insects, including butterflies, moths, bees,grasshoppers and the occasional dragonflies and damselflies can also be spotted at Reddings Retreat.
